I’ve survived my first week

My first week of my last quarter in college went well. I like most of my professors, my classes are cool (they’re all electives, so they better be), and there’s hot bitches in my classes. This is going to be a good quarter, I can feel it.

On a side note, the people involved in my university’s Game Development Program and are part of the core community in our game labs are primarily clickish douchebags. The majority of them have a “holier than thou” attitude and if you’re not one of them, you have no chance of ever being one of them. They’re “cool” gamers. God forbid you don’t play Warcraft III (primarily DotA) or Guitar Hero, or listen to the same music they do. Plus it’s funny to see them have power struggles over the video game club leader positions. It’s like seeing three year olds fight over candy.

Damn you Blizzard and your secret April Fool’s joke!

Yes, we all thought this year’s April Fool’s jokes by Blizzard (the Bard class and Molten Core) were funny. What we didn’t find funny was Blizzard’s realm downtimes today. I had 3 hours to kill between classes, I was thinking of leveling up my Warlock. I had it all planned out. See, here was my plan:

  1. Get out of International Marketing
  2. Buy textbooks
  3. Eat
  4. LOG ON TO WORLD OF WARCRAFT AND LEVEL UP MY WARLOCK
  5. Go to Effective Business Communication

Steps 1-3 went as planned. I was about to start step 4 when I saw that all servers were down and they were going up one by one very slowly. Blizzard stated in its in-game message that all servers should be up by 2:00pm PST. It’s 5:30pm CST, meaning 3:30pm PST and most are still not up. Oh, look, they updated the message. Now servers should be up by 4:00pm PST. God dammit Blizzard, NOT FUNNY!

OMG Dark Forces!

This. Is. HUGE! It’s been over 10 years since I played Star Wars: Dark Forces. I remember trying to install it about 6 years ago but it wouldn’t work. Today for some weird reason I decided to see if I could successfully install it. I did a bit of research and lo and behold, I finally got it to work! I can either run it using VDM Sound or using Microsoft Virtual PC 2004. I’m gonna be up all night…..

Sixteen Candles

March 30, 2008

I’m not a big fan of local bands, let alone a fan of going to their concerts. But on Saturday night I was dragged by a bunch of people I work with to Cubby Bear to see this local Chicago ’80s band called Sixteen Candles Band. Obviously, they’re named after the ’80s movie Sixteen Candles.

I must admit it was fun. I wasn’t really so fond of the band, I mean, they played some nice ’80s songs but I could’ve just listened to those on my iPod in the car. It’s the people I was with that made it so damn fun. I pretty much got raped on the dance floor by two of the girls I work with. After closing time we hit up a dive bar up the street and closed that down as well.

Then we went back to one of the girls’ house and stayed up till about 6am just having fun talking. I swear I haven’t had this much fun just talking and fucking around in so long. It got funnier and funnier as time went on because the more tired we got the goofier we became. Plus the 24 pack of Miller Lite that was sitting on one person’s trunk for god knows how many months might have contributed to the goofiness. To conclude, I got home at 6:30am, was back at work at 1:00pm and tomorrow I start my final quarter of college. Damn, the highlight of my Spring Break was an ’80s band concert…

Reviving the blog

March 16, 2008

I’m reviving this blog. It’s not going to be entirely focused on gaming, but gaming will play some role in it (especially when I have the need to bitch about trying to loot an item with a 1.4% drop rate and 78 kills later I still have not looted it…). This will be more general, personal, and meaningless. There will be rants. There will be useless posts. There will be tidbits from my life. It was a bit ironic that for the last 6 months or so “It’s Dead, Jim” accurately represented the status of this site. Well, I’m pulling a Jesus. It’s Dead, Jim has now been resurrected. Yay. Stay tuned.

Crystal Iced Wii

…rich fanboys. Why spend $4000 on a Crystal-iced Wii when you can get a first class blow job from Ashley Alexandra Dupré? Eliot Spitzer did it…

I have a marketing professor who on his first year of teaching at my university got to experience a teaching disaster. He was teaching Principals of Marketing, the introductory marketing course which lays the foundations for all future marketing courses. It was his first time teaching, so he hadn’t found the right way to teach the students the material. When the midterm was distributed, the class average was a 64. He went to his colleagues for advice, and they told him to shift his teaching strategy. Over the next week, he did exactly that. By week two, everyone was in a better mood and back on track. Except for one kid. This kid was not a business major, but a computer science major. He was so upset about his midterm grade that for three weeks (six 90 minute class periods) he spent the entire time glaring at my professor. Kind of like a look of death glare. Read more →
