About

What’s in a name?

Steven Callas and Stavros Kalogeropoulos are one and the same. When my grandfather came to the United States from Greece back in the early twentieth century, he gave the surname “Callas” as his own. Since immigration policy and paperwork was quite informal back then, there weren’t any background checks or registration changes to reflect this name change. So here you have one person with two legal identities in two different countries. And since Greece is part of the European Economic Area, I am registered and legally able to work in Europe under Stavros Kalogeropoulos.

Everything everywhere

My experiences have shaped my skill-set into something quite unique. From sales to customer service, community management to social media, editorial to marketing and advertising, from logical to creative. My hunger for knowledge and exploration have allowed me to be well traveled and well versed in many cultures of the world. In a sense I am a Jack of all trades, but I also am a master of them all. Everything I do is with my passion for advancing not only myself, but those around me as well.

Here be dragons

This site is a combination of my creative and professional works as well as my blog. Nowadays I mostly write about technology, in particular the mobile industry, but I’m prone to write a quick or lengthy post about anything that is on my mind, given the opportunity. Professionally, you may have encountered me as a community moderator and support associate at Gawker, or you may have read my articles or heard my voice at The Noisecast, a tech podcast and blog I co-founded and served as Editor-in-Chief of.

I am inspired by:

  • Former column in the Chicago Sun-Times called QT written by Zay N. Smith.
  • Raph Koster for his infinite game design wisdom.
  • Steve Jobs for his insane pursuit of his vision.
  • Star Wars and Star Trek.
  • My father for everything he was, is, and will be.
  • German and Italian automobiles.
  • Pininfarina.
  • House music.
  • Greek beaches.
  • Steve McQueen for being the permanent King of Cool.
  • And many many more.
